A Non-Profit  company formed in 2008, with the goal of purchasing the historic Washington Theatre, so that it may be saved, maintained, and restored back to the original single screen theatre it was.

Twinned in 1978, the time has come to bring this majestic theatre back to its roots, complete with a hidden stage that will be used for both concerts and theatre arts.  Plus, removal of the drop ceiling and dividing wall that makes it a twin cinema and uncovering a breathtaking turquoise plaster ceiling, complete with goldleafing, cherubs, intricate desigs and highlighted by a 32 foot wide dome with a golden sunburst.

Programming will consist of creating a muti-cultural use arts center providing our community and surrounding towns with an abundant resource of educational/recreational activities and opportunities.

We look to partner with area schools and colleges in establishing a full time credited communications/theatre arts program, allowing students to acquire the knowlege of getting a hands on working experience in a historic theatre, blending new technology and recapturing the golden era of Hollywood.

THE KINGDOM

Jamie Foxx & Jennifer Garner

(R) 2hrs

When a terrorist bomb detonates inside a Western housing compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, an international incident is ignited. FBI Special Agent Ronald Fleury (Jamie Foxx) quickly assembles an elite team (Chris Cooper, Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman) and negotiates a secret five-day trip into Saudi Arabia to locate the madman behind the bombing. Upon landing in the desert kingdom, however, they discover Saudi authorities unwelcoming of American interlopers into what they consider a local matter. The FBI agents find their expertise worthless without the trust of their Saudi counterparts, who want to locate the terrorist in their homeland on their own terms. Fleury’s crew finds a like-minded partner in Saudi Colonel Al-Ghazi (Ashraf Barhoum), who helps them navigate royal politics and unlock the secrets of the crime scene. With these unlikely allies sharing a propulsive commitment, the team is led to the killer’s front door in a blistering do-or-die confrontation.

Opening in Spring

Greetings to you,

SPRING HAS FINALLY ARRIVED.

KEEP YOUR EYES FOCUED ON THAT MARQUEE….LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A MESSAGE POSTED ON IT!!!!

The building is currently being brought up to code and we are looking to open the Washington Theatre by late Spring, with a full schedule by the end of MAY.  It has been nearly five years since its closure and the time has come for motion pictures to make a comeback, here in good ole’ Washington.  We also look foward to being apart of future promotional  events with Washington’s Business Improvement District.

Many renovations and restorations are taking place, with many more planned for the future.  Most recently, will be the uncovering of the original porcelain tiled floors, in both the men and womens lounge’s.  We plan to have first-run movies, because we shouldn’t have to wait two months to see a picture. There will eventually be a mix of both art films and classics, along with special events like WWE celebrity autograph sessions, comedy shows and musical performances.  There are a lot of talented people in the area and it will be a great compliment to the theatre.

The website is under construction, so stay tuned in, as it will be changing with more info and pictures too.

The new box office phone number will be (908) 689-0881

Most recently, the theatre has been contacted by the New Jersey Film Commission, to be apart of the 100th Anniversary of  native comedian, Lou Costello.  You may have seen his name partnered with Bud Abbott, together, providing many years of comedy relief in motion pictures during the 40s. I grew up watching these films with my parents and granparents and loved all of them.

Lou’s children have dicovered a 20 minute “short” that will be shown to select theatres across the state and The Washington Theatre plans to be one of them. Most likely, it will be accompanied by a few other classic films, creating a festival in honor of this very funny man, whose devotion and caring about the youth in society, created a center for such, in his hometown of Paterson.

More will be announced as things unfold, regarding a time and date for this special event.
